Description
I have spent many days walking the streets of Paris. I have explored the various gardens of Le Nôtre, photographed along the coastline from Dunkirk to Nice, and followed pilgrim paths through Toulouse and Vezelay. I have spent nights tracking a full moon as it slowly rose over the Chausey islands, chased a lightning storm at Hautvilliers, stumbled into gravestones, alone in old cemeteries, and captured shadows cast on moving clouds atop the abbey steeple on Mont Saint Michel. I have photographed lace factories in Calais, salt works in Provence, pebble excavations in Picardy, and a concentration camp in the Vosges Mountains. Photographing France could be more than a life’s work and I fully realize that the fifty-nine images in this publication barely scratch the surface of this irresistible country.
